Wed Sep 25 09:00:46 UTC 2024: ## Barbara Walters’ Biographer Weighs In on The View’s Evolution: Would She Approve?

AUSTIN, Texas – Barbara Walters, the legendary broadcaster who created The View, would likely be pleased by the show’s enduring political relevance, but concerned by its lack of diversity in viewpoints, according to Susan Page, Washington bureau chief for USA Today and author of “The Rulebreaker: The Life and Times of Barbara Walters.”

Speaking at the Texas Tribune Festival, Page noted that Walters envisioned The View as a platform for women of different generations and perspectives, including conservative voices. However, she acknowledged that the rise of Donald Trump has created challenges for achieving true diversity of opinion on the show.

Page believes that the show’s current lack of pro-Trump voices, despite the significant percentage of Americans who support Trump, undermines its goal of representing all viewpoints. While The View remains a popular platform for political figures, it has become known for its critical stance towards Trump and his supporters.

Walters’ original concept of The View, Page emphasized, aimed for a more inclusive and nuanced conversation. Walters would have appreciated the show’s influence in today’s political landscape but might have questioned its ability to truly represent all perspectives.

“The View,” hosted by Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro, continues to be a major force in daytime television, but its political slant has drawn criticism for its perceived lack of balance.
