Wed Sep 25 02:47:37 UTC 2024: ## Minnesota Man Sentenced to Life for Murdering Coworker After Sexual Harassment

**ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA** – Michael J. Carpenter, 38, was sentenced to life without parole last week for the premeditated murder of his coworker, Nicole Hammond, 28. Carpenter shot Hammond in the neck in the parking lot of their workplace, Dubow Textile, in October 2022.

The murder followed a heated argument the previous night during which Hammond had explicitly rejected Carpenter’s unwanted advances. Text messages revealed that Hammond had repeatedly expressed her discomfort with Carpenter’s behavior. While coworkers were reportedly aware of Carpenter’s harassment, no formal complaints had been made to management.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who prosecuted the case, released a statement expressing condolences to Hammond’s family and friends. He described Hammond as “a talented, kind, and caring soul who loved art and nature” and said her absence would be deeply felt. Ellison expressed hope that the sentencing would bring some level of peace to Hammond’s loved ones.

Hammond was in the process of launching her own jewelry business at the time of her death. She was a talented writer who loved spending time with her father and enjoyed outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and photography. She dreamed of relocating to Fort Myers, Florida, and was dearly loved by all who knew her.
