Wed Sep 25 07:43:53 UTC 2024: ## Two UN Refugee Agency Employees Killed in Israeli Airstrikes in Lebanon
**(Beirut, Lebanon) -** The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has confirmed the deaths of two of its employees in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon. Dina Darwiche, who worked at the UNHCR’s Bekaa office, was killed when her residence was struck by a missile on Monday. Her husband and one of their children were rescued with serious injuries. Tragically, Darwiche and her youngest son’s bodies were recovered on Tuesday.
Ali Basma, who worked at the UNHCR’s Tyre office in southern Lebanon, was also confirmed dead on September 23.
“UNHCR is outraged by the killing of our colleagues, and we extend our deepest sympathies to their families and loved ones,” stated the UNHCR in a press release.
UNHCR head Filippo Grandi expressed his condolences on X, stating that he was “very saddened to confirm that two UNHCR colleagues were also killed yesterday.”
The deaths of the two UNHCR employees add to the growing civilian casualty count in Lebanon as Israeli airstrikes continue.
