Wed Sep 25 01:24:58 UTC 2024: ## UK Vows to Strengthen Ukraine’s Position Ahead of Winter, Amidst Rising Tensions

**New York, NY** – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has pledged to put Ukraine in the “strongest position” ahead of the winter months as the war with Russia intensifies. While declining to confirm the UK’s stance on supplying long-range weaponry for strikes inside Russia, Lammy acknowledged the escalation of the conflict with Iran’s provision of ballistic missiles to Moscow.

“The most important thing is to put Ukraine in the strongest position,” Lammy told AFP, reiterating that the UK is working closely with Ukraine’s leadership. Lammy’s comments come after President Zelensky requested permission to use British Storm Shadow missiles and US-made ATACMS missiles to target deeper inside Russia. A decision on this request remains pending.

Lammy also addressed the escalating violence in Lebanon following Israel’s airstrikes, expressing concern about a potential wider regional conflict. The UK has deployed military units to Cyprus to facilitate the evacuation of British citizens from Lebanon.

In a separate development, Lammy criticized Russia’s actions at the UN Security Council, accusing Moscow of “running roughshod over international law” despite claims of standing for the Global South. He also highlighted the UK’s commitment to combatting climate change and announced the creation of a new “clean power alliance” to facilitate the energy transition in developing countries.

“This is the moment to step up in relation to the climate emergency,” Lammy asserted. “We are determined to get back UK leadership, not just on our own behalf, but on behalf of the planet.”
