Oslo-based design studio, Studio Sløyd, has launched its new collection of stools, aptly named “ROGGBIF” – a playful nod to the Norwegian acronym for the colors of the rainbow. This whimsical collection embodies the spirit of its name with its 24 vibrant, multi-shaped designs.
Studio Sløyd, founded by Herman Ødegaard, Mikkel Jøraandstad, and Tim Knutsen, has spent the last two years developing a unique dyed wood technique. “Instead of starting with a shape, we flipped our usual process, experimenting with the material itself,” explained the trio.
Their “through-colored” birch wood, where dye penetrates the entire material, offers a sustainable and durable alternative to traditional painted wood furniture. This innovative technique was first showcased in the ROGGBIF stool and stepladder at the Norwegian Presence exhibition in Milan last year.
The expanded collection embraces playful patterns, including candy-colored checkerboards, striped steam-bent elements, and inlaid dots. This showcases the limitless possibilities of the studio’s signature “roguish” approach to design, merging classic Scandi sensibilities with inventive form-making.
The ROGGBIF stools made their latest appearance at Oslo’s Sorgenfri Gallery, where they sold out within the first hour, further solidifying Studio Sløyd’s reputation as a design force to be reckoned with.
