KLUANG – Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, a Bersatu Supreme Council member and Perikatan Nasional’s by-election director, has expressed confidence in the Chinese community’s support for the coalition in the upcoming Mahkota by-election.
Azmin highlighted the positive reception Perikatan received during their campaigning activities, noting that the Chinese community has been “warm and receptive” towards their candidate. This sentiment was further validated by the Kluang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who invited Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyuddin Yassin for a dialogue with the business community.
“These incidents showed that there is a trust among the community towards Perikatan,” Azmin said, adding that he hopes this trust will translate into votes on polling day, which is this Saturday, September 28th.
Regarding the ongoing spat between Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and DAP’s Teresa Kok, Azmin emphasized that Perikatan does not want to rely on the weaknesses of others. “We have to work hard because I do not want us to rely on their internal issues to win the by-election,” he stated, adding that the issues within their camp are their own problem and Perikatan will not be getting involved.
The spat between the two politicians stems from the halal certification issue, which was sparked by a proposal from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar to make halal certification mandatory for eateries that do not serve pork and alcohol.
