**Santa Monica, CA** – A new study by the RAND Corporation, a leading research organization, has highlighted the lack of robust evidence supporting the efficacy of homeopathy. Despite its widespread use, the study found that the existing research on homeopathy falls short in terms of quality and scope.
The report, titled “Improving the Evidence Base for Homeopathic Research: A Call for Rigorous Studies,” analyzes 99 homeopathic clinical research studies, finding that the majority lack sufficient internal, external, and model validity. The studies, conducted across various countries, focused on a wide range of conditions, including pain, respiratory issues, mental health, and cognition.
The study also convened an expert panel in 2023 to identify key gaps in homeopathic research. Panelists agreed that the current evidence base is insufficient and recommended the need for future research focusing on improving study quality and broadening the scope of areas studied.
“This research is a call to action for funders, researchers, and practitioners,” said Dr. Patricia M. Herman, lead author of the report. “We need to invest in rigorous clinical research to provide solid evidence on the effectiveness, safety, and comparative effectiveness of homeopathy.”
The RAND study was funded by the Samueli Foundation and conducted by the RAND Research Across Complementary and Integrative Health Institutions (REACH) Center. This publication is part of the RAND research report series, which undergoes rigorous peer review to ensure high standards for research quality and objectivity.
