Late-night host Stephen Colbert took aim at former President Donald Trump’s recent visit to a Pennsylvania supermarket, suggesting that Trump’s attempt to connect with “the common man” fell flat.
During a segment on his “Late Show” Tuesday night, Colbert played a clip of Trump being asked what he would buy at the supermarket. Trump, appearing bewildered, replied, “I don’t know. You know, because of what I do, I haven’t been in these stores in a long time.”
Colbert then impersonated Trump, saying, “You know, it’s so nice. I’ll tell you, this is amazing. This is fun for me because it’s so nice to see where all the food lives. I usually don’t get to meet it until the man comes in with my sauce-filled nuggy bucket.”
Colbert further mocked Trump’s lack of familiarity with everyday items, highlighting Trump’s excitement over popcorn while failing to actually use the word. “Oh, look, I gotta get some,” Trump said, “Look at that stuff! We gotta get it.”
“OK, he clearly just forgot the word ‘popcorn,'” Colbert quipped.
The segment highlights the disconnect between Trump’s lifestyle and that of ordinary Americans, a point that Colbert has frequently emphasized in his commentary.
