**Bengaluru:** Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be investigated by the Lokayukta police in a case concerning the allotment of land by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to his wife, BM Parvathi. A special court has ordered the probe following a complaint filed by RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna.
The order, issued on Wednesday by special court judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat, comes after the High Court upheld the Governor’s sanction for an investigation against Siddaramaiah. The allegations revolve around the illegal allotment of 14 sites to his wife by MUDA.
The court directed the Lokayukta police to initiate an investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code and submit a report by December 24.
Siddaramaiah has reiterated his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, stating that he is “ready to face a legal fight” and “not afraid of a probe.”
Home Minister G Parameshwara emphasized the independence of the Lokayukta police, stating they will investigate independently.
The BJP, however, has demanded Siddaramaiah’s resignation and called for his full cooperation with the probe. State BJP president BY Vijayendra pointed out the hypocrisy of Siddaramaiah’s stance, reminding him of his calls for the resignation of former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in a similar situation.
The probe is expected to delve into the allegations of irregularities surrounding the land allotment and could have significant political repercussions for Siddaramaiah and the ruling Congress party.
