**Bengaluru:** Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will face an inquiry by the Lokayukta in connection with the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam. This comes after a trial court ordered a police case against him based on a complaint filed by activist Snehamayi Krishna.
The court’s order follows a petition by Krishna alleging that Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, was allotted multiple plots of land in a prime Mysuru area in exchange for land elsewhere, potentially causing the state a loss of Rs 4,000 crore. The Chief Minister has vehemently denied these allegations.
Siddaramaiah, despite facing mounting pressure, has maintained his innocence and vowed to fight the allegations legally. He has also expressed confidence that the judiciary will exonerate him. However, the activist who filed the complaint, seeking a CBI investigation, has indicated that he will approach the Karnataka High Court if the Lokayukta investigation fails to satisfy him.
The BJP, a staunch opponent of the Congress government, has seized the opportunity to demand Siddaramaiah’s resignation. They have staged protests across the state, calling for a CBI probe and accusing the Congress of corruption.
While Siddaramaiah’s deputy, D.K. Shivakumar, has dismissed the allegations as a political conspiracy, the MUDA land scam controversy continues to heat up the political landscape of Karnataka. It comes at a crucial time for both BJP and Congress, who are locked in a fierce battle for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections and the ongoing elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
