Wed Sep 25 03:03:00 UTC 2024: ## Sabah Power Grid to Get Boost from New Gas-Powered Generator Plant

**KOTA KINABALU, Sabah (Sept 24, 2023) -** Sabah’s power grid is set to be strengthened with the installation of a new gas-powered generator plant, announced Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) on Tuesday. The utility company received approval from the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) to proceed with the project, which will increase the reserve capacity of the Sabah grid.

The 94MW turbine gas generators will be installed in Kimanis and are expected to be operational by June 2025. This project, deemed critical for the stability and enhancement of power supply in Sabah, is part of the short-term initiatives outlined in the Supply Development Plan approved by the Sabah Energy Council.

SESB CEO Mohd Yaakob Jaafar emphasized the importance of this fast-track project, highlighting its role in bolstering the reliability and capacity of Sabah’s power grid. The new generator plant will be connected to the Sabah grid system via injection points at the Langat main incoming substation.
