**RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA** – The Saudi Women’s Premier League (SWPL) is set to embark on its third season, marking another significant step in the development of women’s soccer in the Kingdom. The league, which boasts over 200 players from 20 countries, will see a fierce competition for the title between reigning champions Al-Nassr and challengers Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal.
The season’s opening will be accompanied by the launch of the #SeeUsPlay campaign, aimed at inspiring young girls to embrace the sport and encouraging fans to support the growth of women’s soccer in Saudi Arabia.
Adding to the excitement, the SWPL has attracted top international talent, including former UEFA Women’s Champions League winners like Sarah Bouhaddi (Al-Ula), Kheira Hamraoui (Al-Shabab), and Sara Gunnarsdóttir (Al-Qadisiyah). Former PSG midfielder Hamraoui’s arrival in particular has generated significant buzz.
“We’ve gone from no professional female players to welcoming players from over 20 countries,” said Aalia Al Rasheed, Head of Women’s Football at the Saudi Football Federation (SAFF). “Watching the evolution of women’s football in Saudi Arabia has been thrilling, and this season will further advance that growth.”
The league’s growth is evident in the increased participation of young girls in club and academy programs, with the SAFF reporting around 77,000 participants in national school leagues.
“We’re proud of the progress women’s football has achieved in Saudi Arabia,” stated SAFF President Yasser Al Misehal. “Our investments are bearing fruit, and we’re witnessing growth across all levels — from grassroots to the professional leagues.”
The 2024/2025 season promises to be a captivating one, with a mix of established stars, rising talent, and international players vying for the title. As the league continues to develop, its commitment to fostering women’s soccer within the Kingdom and on the global stage is undeniable.
