Wed Sep 25 08:00:00 UTC 2024: ## British Crime Thriller “Santosh” Chosen as UK’s Oscar Submission

The British Academy has announced that Sandhya Suri’s acclaimed Hindi-language crime thriller “Santosh” will be the United Kingdom’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film Oscar. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, tells the story of a newly widowed woman who inherits her late husband’s job as a police constable in rural India and becomes entangled in an investigation when a young girl is murdered.

“Santosh,” Suri’s directorial debut, stars Shahana Goswami alongside Sunita Rajwar. The film has been praised for its strong female characters and its unflinching exploration of power dynamics and social inequalities in India.

This submission comes after the UK’s historic win for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars earlier this year with Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest.” The UK has previously had limited success in this category, with only two nominations in its history.

“Santosh” is set to be released in the US by Metrograph Pictures.
