**Seoul, South Korea** – Samsung Electronics announced a strategic technology partnership with Hyundai Motor and Kia, aiming to bridge the gap between smart homes and vehicles. The collaboration will integrate Samsung’s SmartThings IoT platform with Hyundai and Kia’s software-defined vehicles (SDVs), creating a seamless and connected experience for users.
A key feature of the partnership is the integration of SmartThings Find, Samsung’s crowdsourced network of hundreds of millions of Galaxy devices, into Hyundai and Kia vehicles. This will allow owners to locate their cars using nearby Galaxy smartphones, even without an active cellular connection, proving especially useful in case of theft or loss.
Beyond location tracking, Galaxy smartphone users will be able to control their Hyundai and Kia vehicles’ air conditioning and check their range using the Quick Panel. Additionally, Hyundai and Kia cars can be seamlessly integrated into the SmartThings ecosystem, allowing users to set up automations such as adjusting their Samsung air conditioners, air purifiers, or other connected devices when arriving home.
Samsung and the automotive giants are also collaborating on AI-powered services. These will include in-vehicle health monitoring via cameras and Galaxy devices, pet care solutions optimizing the vehicle environment for pets, integration with smart apartment solutions, and more.
“Through our collaboration with Hyundai and Kia, customers will experience the convenience of SmartThings not only at home but also in their vehicles, transcending space,” said Paul Cheun, President CTO of the DX Division at Samsung Electronics and Head of Samsung Research. “We will continue to expand the SmartThings ecosystem, offering new lifestyles and value to even more customers.”
This partnership signifies a growing trend of convergence between smart home and automotive technologies, promising a more connected and convenient experience for users. It also highlights Samsung’s commitment to expanding the SmartThings ecosystem beyond the confines of the home.
