**PUNE, INDIA** – A 24-year-old woman died in Pune, Maharashtra, after an illegal abortion procedure was performed at her home, leading to the arrest of her husband and father-in-law. Police suspect the family arranged the abortion after discovering the foetus was female, and have also booked the woman’s mother-in-law.
The deceased woman had married the accused in 2017 and had two children before becoming pregnant for the third time. Her condition worsened due to heavy bleeding on Sunday, and she died on the way to the hospital the next day.
The police investigation revealed that a private doctor was called to perform the abortion and is now under scrutiny. The four-month-old foetus was buried in the family’s farm and has since been exhumed for a postmortem.
The case has been registered at the Indapur Police station under various sections of the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act, and further investigation is underway.
