**Agartala, Sept 24:** Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha declared on Tuesday that the Northeast has witnessed a surge in development and restoration of peace since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister of India. Addressing the inaugural program of the North East NSS Festival 2024 in Agartala, Saha praised Modi’s focus on the region, citing his use of the term “Ashtalakshmi” to signify the region’s importance.
“We had never heard of such a term for the Northeast until Prime Minister Modi used it,” Saha remarked. “This proves his commitment to the development of all sectors in the Northeast. In the past, we only saw terrorism. No one took significant steps.”
Saha also highlighted the sense of unity felt by the Northeast after Modi’s leadership. “Earlier, we were separated from the mainstream of India,” he explained. “The Northeast was neglected. But since Modi became Prime Minister, the region is now free from insurgency, and peace has been restored. We are witnessing a wave of development and are now part of the mainstream of India.”
The chief minister pointed to several key developments, including improved education, healthcare, communication infrastructure, and the implementation of the “Act East” policy. He also emphasized the signing of over 12 peace accords in the region, including three in Tripura.
“We now have national and state highways,” Saha said, crediting Modi’s vision for these achievements. “Today, there is peace in the Northeast. All of this is possible because of PM Modi.”
Saha also underscored the significance of the NSS program in schools and colleges, encouraging participants to work towards making the Northeast and India plastic-free. He urged large-scale plantation drives to further environmental conservation efforts.
The event was attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, Secretary P.K. Chakraborty, Dr. Major Kakali Dhar, and other dignitaries from across the Northeast.
