**Amman, Jordan** – Jordan has chosen Sareen Hairabedian’s documentary “My Sweet Land” to represent the country in the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards.

The film tells the story of 11-year-old Vrej, who dreams of becoming a dentist in his village in Artsakh, a region of Nagorno-Karabakh that has been plagued by conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia since the 1980s. When war erupts again, Vrej and his family are forced to flee their home, only to return to a devastated homeland after their people lose the war. As Vrej faces the harsh realities of his new life, he struggles with the weight of his hopes and the trauma he has experienced.

“My Sweet Land” is the debut feature film from New York-based director Hairabedian, who previously directed the award-winning HBO documentary “We Are Not Done Yet.” The film premiered at the Sheffield DocFest earlier this year and has since screened at numerous film festivals, including the Amman International Film Festival, where it won the Jury Award for Best Feature Documentary and the FIPRESCI Award for Best Feature Length Arab Documentary.

The documentary is produced by Azza Hourani under the banner of HAI Creative, in co-production with Sister Productions and Soilsíu Films. Hourani is a seasoned producer with a number of credits, including Ali Abbasi’s “Holy Spider.”

The selection of “My Sweet Land” as Jordan’s Oscar entry was made by a committee overseen by the Royal Film Commission – Jordan. The film will now compete against entries from other countries for a nomination in the Best International Feature Film category.
