**WASHINGTON, D.C.** – Rep. Jim Jordan, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, has accused the FBI of deliberately downplaying the charges against a man who allegedly plotted to assassinate Trump in South Florida. Speaking on Newsmax Tuesday night, Jordan expressed skepticism about the federal law enforcement’s efforts to investigate the alleged assassination attempt.
The incident involved Ryan Routh, who was apprehended by the Secret Service after authorities said he attempted to attack Trump at his Mar-a-Lago property with a high-powered rifle. Routh initially faced charges of unlawful gun possession as a felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Trump has accused prosecutors of deliberately minimizing the charges for political reasons, a sentiment echoed by Jordan. “No, of course not,” Jordan told Greta Van Susteren on Newsmax’s “The Record” when asked if he was satisfied with the Justice Department’s handling of the case.
Jordan went on to criticize the FBI’s alleged retaliation against whistleblowers who came forward to his Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. He claimed these whistleblowers had their lives “made a living hell” with revoked security clearances. He further pointed to the FBI special agent in charge of the assassination investigation at the agency’s Miami field office as being linked to these retaliatory actions.
“Should we be surprised? I don’t think we should be surprised that the same FBI that spied on Trump’s campaign; the same FBI that said, ‘If you’re a parent showing up at a school board meeting, you need investigating; the same FBI that said if you’re a pro-life Catholic you’re an extremist; the same FBI that can’t tell us who leaked the Dobbs decision, who put the pipe bombs on Jan. 6 at the Capitol and who put cocaine at the White House,” Jordan asserted.
Jordan questioned the FBI’s credibility and expressed doubts about Attorney General Merrick Garland’s commitment to transparency, stating that Americans have “very little confidence” in his words.
The Congressman indicated that a hearing will be held on Tuesday to further investigate the allegations of FBI retaliation against whistleblowers.
