**Mumbai, India** – Torrent Pharmaceuticals has issued a statement clarifying that a batch of Shelcal 500, a calcium supplement, that recently failed a Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) test was not manufactured by the company and is considered “spurious”.
The CDSCO had recently flagged over 50 drugs as “not of standard quality”, sparking concerns over drug safety. Torrent’s clarification follows an investigation into the failed Shelcal 500 batch.
“The sample seized by CDSCO is not manufactured by Torrent and is in fact non-genuine and spurious,” stated the pharmaceutical giant. The company further explained that it has implemented QR codes displaying batch manufacturing details to verify authenticity, which were found lacking in the seized samples.
Torrent Pharma has submitted a response and assessment report to the CDSCO.
