Wed Sep 25 08:37:00 UTC 2024: ## MCMC Not Taking Action On GISB Parody Videos, Awaits Police Instructions
**PUTRAJAYA** – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has not received any reports on parody videos related to GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB), Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed on Wednesday.
While acknowledging the numerous versions of the parody videos circulating online, Minister Fahmi stated that the MCMC will only take action if instructed by the police. He expressed amusement at the creativity displayed by Malaysians in their parodies, highlighting choir and rock versions among others.
The recent surge in parodies follows the emergence of videos featuring individuals singing songs linked to the banned sect Al-Arqam and its spiritual leader Ashaari Mohammad.
The government banned Al-Arqam in 1994 due to concerns over its deviant teachings and potential to disrupt social order. The sect later rebranded as Rufaqa Corporation and subsequently as GISB. Despite the rebranding, the government continues to monitor the movement, suspecting it of perpetuating the banned ideology under a business guise.
These developments follow a police raid on 20 care homes linked to GISB in September, which resulted in the rescue of 402 children and teenagers suspected of being victims of child labor and sexual exploitation. The police operation, dubbed “Ops Global,” led to the arrest of several individuals connected to GISB.
During Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri briefed the cabinet on the condition of the rescued children.
