**KUALA LUMPUR** – Despite recent calls for his resignation, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has yet to face a formal motion of no confidence in Parliament.
Tan Sri Johari Abdul, the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, confirmed that no such motion has been submitted, dismissing recent rumors and speculation as mere talk. He emphasized that any motion of no confidence must be submitted in writing according to established procedures, and cannot be simply communicated via phone or email.
Anwar himself had challenged the Opposition to table a vote of no confidence against him during the upcoming Dewan Rakyat session, which begins on October 14th. This challenge stemmed from allegations by the Opposition that he has not adequately addressed the needs of the rakyat.
Following Anwar’s challenge, PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man advised the Prime Minister to refrain from reacting to calls for his resignation. PKR Vice-President Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad attributed PAS’s calls for Anwar’s resignation to their perceived threat from his growing popularity.
Meanwhile, Johari clarified that the six former Bersatu MPs who lost their party membership will continue to serve as Opposition MPs during the upcoming Parliament meeting. Their status remains unchanged despite recent developments, as they have not sought to join the government.
These six MPs are Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Syed Abu Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanafi (Tanjong Karang), and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).
