Leapmotor, the Chinese electric vehicle brand, is set to make a splash in the UK market this October with the launch of its C10 SUV. Priced at £36,500, the C10 positions itself as a compelling alternative to popular electric SUVs like the BMW iX3, Toyota bZ4X, Nissan Ariya, and Skoda Enyaq, all of which are either more expensive or smaller than the Chinese newcomer.
The C10 boasts a 69.9kWh battery offering a WLTP-certified range of 261 miles, with a 30 to 80% charge taking approximately 30 minutes. The battery is cleverly integrated into the chassis using Leapmotor’s ‘Cell-to-chassis’ technology, which improves layout, enhances torsional rigidity, and promises an impressive lifespan of over 372,000 miles.
Although initially launching with a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 218bhp and 320Nm of torque, Leapmotor has hinted at a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version in the future. This setup propels the C10 from 0 to 62 mph in a respectable 7.3 seconds.
The C10’s design features a smooth, modern aesthetic with flush-fitting door handles, a distinctive full-width light bar at the front and rear, and a raised bonnet designed for pedestrian safety. The interior takes cues from Tesla with its minimalist design, featuring a large 14.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch driver’s display, and minimal physical buttons. Despite the simplicity, the C10 offers ample storage space with 26 compartments throughout the cabin.
The launch version of the C10 will be fully loaded, including 20-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera system, a premium 12-speaker sound system, a powered tailgate, and a heated steering wheel.
With its competitive price, impressive range, and feature-packed specification, the Leapmotor C10 looks set to make a significant impact in the UK’s burgeoning electric SUV market. First deliveries are expected to begin in December.
