**Mumbai, India:** The financial capital of India is reeling after a torrential downpour that lasted for only 5 hours, causing widespread chaos and claiming four lives.
The heavy rainfall led to the deaths of two women and two men. One woman died after falling into a drain in Andheri East, while two men working at a stone quarry in Kalyan lost their lives. Another woman drowned at the Zenith Waterfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and its surrounding areas, forecasting “extremely heavy rainfall” for the next 48 hours, accompanied by strong winds of 40-50 km per hour. The city’s civic body, BMC, announced the closure of schools.
The downpour resulted in the diversion of 14 flights, including nine Indigo flights, to other airports due to unfavorable weather conditions. Other flights affected included two Vistara flights and one each from Air India, Akasa, and Gulf Air.
The IMD upgraded the orange alert to a red alert for Mumbai, valid until 8:30 am on Thursday.
The city is bracing itself for another day of heavy rainfall, with the IMD predicting a maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
