**Mumbai, India (September 26, 2024)** – Mumbai is currently under a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) due to torrential rains that have caused significant waterlogging and disruptions across the city.

The IMD has warned of heavy rain continuing until 8:30 am tomorrow, leading the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to declare a holiday for all schools and colleges in the city today, September 26. The civic body has urged citizens to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Mumbai has experienced record rainfall in the past 24 hours, with several areas receiving over 100 mm of rainfall. Mankhurd recorded the highest rainfall at 190 mm, followed by Ghatkopar at 182 mm and Vikhroli at 188 mm.

The heavy rains have caused widespread travel disruptions, with commuters at Ghatkopar railway station facing immense challenges due to overcrowding. Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have also been significantly affected.

A total of 14 flights have been diverted to other airports, including Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Goa, and Udaipur, due to adverse weather conditions. Airlines like IndiGo, Vistara, Air India, Akasa Air, Gulf Air, and SpiceJet have been impacted.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and stay updated on the situation as the rains continue to impact daily life in the city.
