**Pune, India** – The death of an Ernst & Young (EY) employee, Anna Sebastian Perayil, is under investigation by Indian authorities after allegations that her overwhelming workload contributed to her passing. Perayil, a 26-year-old executive who joined the company in March 2023, died in July.
Perayil’s mother, Anita Augustine, publicly accused EY of exploiting her daughter’s dedication, claiming that the company took advantage of her eagerness to prove herself. In a letter addressed to EY India’s chairman, Rajiv Memani, Augustine detailed how Perayil’s workload, long hours, and unfamiliar work environment led to anxiety, sleeplessness, and severe stress.
Memani expressed his condolences in a LinkedIn post, emphasizing that EY prioritizes employee well-being. He stated that such incidents are “alien to our culture” and committed to creating a more harmonious workplace.
However, the Indian government has launched an investigation into the allegations, with the Ministry of Labour and Employment seeking information from state authorities. A report is expected within seven to ten days.
