**LONDON** – Ayesha Ofori, a former Goldman Sachs wealth advisor, has launched Propelle, a female-focused financial investment platform, with the mission of tackling Britain’s growing gender wealth gap.
Ofori, who managed over £500 million in client assets during her six years at Goldman Sachs, left her high-profile position after realizing she was inadvertently contributing to the wealth disparity between men and women. “I make incredibly rich men richer, that’s what I do, day in, day out,” she admitted.
Propelle, which launched this week, offers a variety of investment options tailored to women’s needs and concerns, including funds from Vanguard, Blackrock, and HSBC. The platform has already raised over £1.2 million in pre-seed funding, with investors including Google, Julius Baer CEO Stefan Bollinger, and Barclays managing director Lucy Demery.
Ofori highlights the significant gender investment gap in Britain, currently at a staggering £567 billion. This disparity is exacerbated by the fact that women are more likely to prioritize saving over investing, often mistaking high-interest savings accounts as a form of investment.
Propelle aims to address these issues by providing women with a platform that is user-friendly, transparent, and tailored to their specific goals and values. The platform features a risk assessment tool, smart goal setting, and investment options based on personal values such as sustainability and Shariah-compliance.
“I didn’t want to build a platform where women were just investing in things just because it’s there and it’s not working for them,” said Ofori. “We really made an effort to make sure that it’s suitable for the woman based on whatever background that she has.”
Propelle is a significant step towards closing the gender wealth gap in Britain. By empowering women to invest confidently and effectively, Ofori believes they can create a more equitable future for generations to come.
