**Chester-le-Street, England:** A brilliant maiden ODI century from England’s Harry Brook brought Australia’s impressive 14-match winning streak to an end on Tuesday, with England securing a 46-run victory via the DLS method.
The victory marked England’s first in the format since December 2023. Australia had been on the verge of extending their streak to 15 matches, which would have put them within two matches of the second-best ODI winning streak ever.
England, tasked with chasing 305 for victory, found themselves in early trouble at 11/2. However, a crucial partnership of 156 between Brook (101) and Will Jacks (84) turned the tide. Brook was later joined by Liam Livingstone, whose quickfire 33* from 20 balls propelled England ahead of the DLS par score before rain intervened.
The win also denied Australia the opportunity to leapfrog India for top spot on the ICC ODI Men’s Team Rankings. They now sit three points behind India, while South Africa, despite a recent series loss to Afghanistan, holds third place.
The fourth match of the five-match ODI series between Australia and England will be played on Friday.
