**Los Angeles, CA -** A new report by personal finance website WalletHub has named Los Angeles as the best and cheapest city in the US for vegetarians and vegans. The study analyzed 100 of America’s largest cities based on 17 criteria, including grocery costs, the prevalence of meatless restaurants, and the number of salad shops per capita.
Los Angeles topped the list thanks to its abundance of affordable vegan and vegetarian restaurants, scoring high for its high concentration of Yelp-rated restaurants with at least 4.5 stars. The city also boasts a robust network of farmers’ markets, organic farms, and community gardens, making it easy for residents to access fresh produce.
“L.A. residents eat vegetarian and vegan food 187% more often than average Americans,” WalletHub reports, underscoring the city’s strong plant-based food culture.
Orlando and Portland, Oregon, followed Los Angeles in the top three, while San Diego, Seattle, Austin, San Francisco, Miami, Phoenix, and Tampa rounded out the top ten.
The study also revealed a significant increase in the number of Americans adopting vegetarian and vegan diets, with 4% of Americans identifying as vegetarian and 1% as vegan, totaling almost 17 million people.
