**Liverpool** continued their impressive start to the season with a dominant 5-1 victory over **West Ham United** in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield on Wednesday.

New manager Arne Slot’s side fell behind early when an own goal from Jarell Quansah put the Hammers ahead, but Diogo Jota quickly equalized with a header and scored his second goal in the 49th minute. Mohamed Salah added a third goal in the 74th minute, before Edson Alvarez was sent off for West Ham. Gakpo sealed the win with two goals in the final five minutes.

“I do feel like in most parts of the game we had control,” said Slot. “We had a large part of ball possession, particularly in the first half.”

Meanwhile, **Arsenal** enjoyed a convincing 5-1 win over third-tier **Bolton Wanderers** at the Emirates Stadium.

Ethan Nwaneri, who at 17 years old became Arsenal’s youngest-ever goalscorer, netted twice, while Declan Rice, Raheem Sterling, and Kai Havertz also found the back of the net.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta rotated his squad, giving Nwaneri and 16-year-old goalkeeper Jack Porter their first starts.

“We have just one defeat,” said Jota, referring to Liverpool’s recent form. “We are still progressing, still developing our ideas — but only by winning games you become better so we are happy. It’s hard but we want to win again obviously, we are the reigning champions.”

The wins send both Liverpool and Arsenal through to the fourth round of the League Cup, highlighting the strength of the two Premier League giants.
