**WASHINGTON, D.C. -** Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis joined G7 ministers and other international partners on September 23rd in a meeting focused on supporting Ukraine’s energy sector during the upcoming winter. The meeting, hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, aimed to discuss and coordinate assistance for Ukraine as Russia continues to target its energy infrastructure.
“If we don’t allow Ukraine to strike back, all the support we have given could be in ruins,” Landsbergis stated during the meeting, underscoring the importance of bolstering Ukraine’s defenses. To illustrate the devastating impact of Russian attacks, Landsbergis presented debris from the destroyed Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant.
Lithuania has already committed EUR 63 million to supporting Ukraine’s energy sector and is currently completing the dismantling of a thermal power plant which will be donated to Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s ambitious plans for the future include transitioning to renewable energy sources, decentralizing production and distribution networks, and even constructing an underground power station,” shared Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
The meeting, attended by representatives of the G7 nations, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, and other countries, highlighted the international community’s commitment to assisting Ukraine in overcoming the challenges posed by Russia’s aggression.
