Wed Sep 25 03:39:56 UTC 2024: ## KPMG Cuts Nearly 50 Jobs as Consulting Business Restructures
**Auckland, New Zealand** – KPMG New Zealand has announced a major restructuring of its consulting business, resulting in the redundancy of almost 50 employees. The move comes as the firm seeks to adapt to rapidly evolving client needs and the changing landscape of the consulting industry.
KPMG CEO Jason Doherty explained that the company has been evolving its consulting services for several years. However, the pace of change in client requirements and buying patterns has accelerated, necessitating a more fundamental transformation.
“The time has come to move from evolution to transformation, to ensure this area of our business is fit for the future,” Doherty said.
The restructuring will see KPMG shift its focus towards technology, digital and business transformation capabilities. This move comes as New Zealand faces a growing unemployment rate, currently at 4.6 percent, with forecasts predicting it to reach 5 percent by the end of the year.
Despite the challenging job market, recruitment expert Shannon Barlow sees signs of a gradual improvement. “The market is still very slow, but it’s starting to pick up gradually,” she said. “There’s a feeling that we must have been through the worst of it.”
While the job hunt remains difficult, the redundancies at KPMG highlight the ongoing pressure on businesses to adapt and transform in a rapidly changing economic environment.
