Wed Sep 25 03:00:15 UTC 2024: ## Hurricanes Win Preseason Opener, Brind’Amour Family Makes History

**TAMPA, FL** – The Carolina Hurricanes kicked off their preseason with a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday night. Anttoni Honka and Aleksi Heimosalmi scored for the Hurricanes, while Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 22 of 23 shots.

The game was made particularly special by the presence of Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour and his son, Skyler Brind’Amour, who made his NHL preseason debut. Skyler, who recently won the NCAA Championship with Quinnipiac, was inserted into the Hurricanes lineup for the game, marking a unique father-son moment in hockey history.

“It was a nice moment,” said Rod Brind’Amour when asked about coaching his son. “He’s just trying to prove himself, and we’re just trying to get through a day here.”

Skyler, who played center for the Hurricanes, was pleased with his performance. “It was good,” he said. “I didn’t think much of it, to be honest, once the game started. I was just playing hockey and trying to make the most of the opportunity.”

The father-son duo acknowledged the unique experience of playing and coaching each other. However, both emphasized their focus on the game and the opportunity to prove themselves within the team.

The Hurricanes are now preparing for their next preseason game, while Skyler will continue to battle for a roster spot with the team.
