**JAMMU:** Saqlain Tariq, a native of Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir, has brought pride to his home state by winning the “Best Setter” award at the 38th World Military Games in Iran. Serving in the Indian Navy, Saqlain, a former India captain and professional spiker, impressed spectators with his exceptional skills during the volleyball competition, where India secured a Silver medal.
Saqlain’s achievements are significant. He is the first spiker from Jammu & Kashmir to join the Indian team and is also the only professional player from the Union Territory to captain an independent team, the Delhi Toofan.
“Saqlain has made the entire Jammu & Kashmir feel proud of his achievements at the international level,” said Siddhath Daluja, president of the Volleyball Association of Jammu & Kashmir. “Earning an individual honour at the world stage is something extraordinary. These distinctions encourage other youngsters to follow the path of success.”
Back home, Saqlain’s family, particularly his father and coach, Mohd Tariq, were overjoyed upon hearing the news of India’s Silver medal and their son’s individual award.
