Wed Sep 25 07:13:53 UTC 2024: ## Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Students Build Innovative Pickup Truck, Showcasing ‘Skill India’ Commitment

**Pune, India:** Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) is furthering its dedication to the government’s ‘Skill India’ initiative with the successful completion of its Student Car Project. This year, Mechatronics students at SAVWIPL have created a unique pickup truck by merging a Volkswagen Taigun SUV and a Volkswagen Virtus sedan.

The project, which spanned nine months, saw the students involved in every stage from concept finalization to market analysis, research and development, procurement, and final testing. They utilized cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, including 3D printing, to overcome design challenges and equip the vehicle with custom features like underbody protection, studded tires, ambient lighting, and specialized roof-mounted lights, completing the rugged pickup truck look.

Throughout the process, the students were mentored by experienced professionals at SAVWIPL who guided them in collaborating with suppliers and industry experts, bringing their innovative ideas to life. This project is one of many initiatives that SAVWIPL is spearheading in alignment with the government’s emphasis on youth skilling as outlined in the recent Union Budget 2024.

The project is a testament to the success of SAVWIPL Academy’s Dual Vocational Training program in mechatronics, launched in 2011. This 3.5-year course, inspired by Germany’s vocational system, equips high school students with the skills needed for the automotive industry. It instills technological creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills, preparing them to develop innovative technologies.

This project mirrors the global Azubi Student Car Project under the Skoda Academy, which aims to highlight the high-quality training at its Vocational School while supporting the nation’s ‘Skill India’ initiative. It provides students with valuable practical experience in idea evaluation and implementation, solidifying theoretical concepts and enhancing their manufacturing skills.
