**Columbia, MD** – The Howard Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees has publicly defended President Daria J. Willis against anonymous online criticisms levied against her on a message board. The board described the posts as “racist, vitriolic, and regrettable forms of online bullying” and denounced any attempts to defame Dr. Willis.
The message board, which claims to be a platform for HCC employees who feel silenced by the current administration, features over 70 posts criticizing President Willis’ leadership style, citing issues such as low employee morale and high staff turnover. Some posts even accuse President Willis, the campus environment, and hiring processes of being “racist.”
Despite the online attacks, President Willis, who took office in 2022, declared on X (formerly Twitter) that she is “not going anywhere.” The board also released a statement confirming that three board members, including Chair Sean Keller, former vice chair M. Shafeeq Ahmed, and immediate past chair Christopher Marasco, will be stepping down. The reason for these departures is currently unclear.
The HCC board’s unwavering support for President Willis comes as the college faces internal challenges. The recent online attacks highlight the need for addressing concerns about workplace culture and fostering open communication within the institution.
