Wed Sep 25 09:27:01 UTC 2024: ## Hezbollah’s Rocket Attack on Deir Istiya Exposes Hypocrisy of Palestinian Cause, Claims Activist

**By Bassem Eid**

Hezbollah’s recent rocket attack on the Palestinian town of Deir Istiya in the West Bank has once again exposed the cynical manipulation surrounding the Palestinian cause, argues Palestinian human rights activist Bassem Eid.

Eid contends that Hezbollah, the Shi’ite militia heavily influenced by Iran, has long used the Palestinian cause as a tool to portray itself as a regional champion while prioritizing its own agenda. He highlights the historical trend of Arab leaders and organizations exploiting the Palestinian struggle for their own political gains, dating back to the creation of the Arab League and its subsequent embrace of the “maximalist goals” of a Palestinian state, regardless of the human cost.

Eid criticizes the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), founded by the Arab League, for its history of violence and internal power struggles, ultimately leading to the destabilization of Lebanon and the rise of Hezbollah. He further condemns Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, for its reckless disregard for Palestinian lives, using them as human shields and prioritizing violence over genuine support for their wellbeing.

Hezbollah’s rocket attack on Deir Istiya, says Eid, is a stark reminder of the hypocrisy surrounding the Palestinian cause. The group, acting at the behest of Iran, has demonstrated its true priorities, prioritizing the fight against Israel over the safety and welfare of the Palestinian people. He argues that Hezbollah, like Hamas, is not a champion of the Palestinian cause but rather an enemy, seeking to exploit the struggle for its own ends.

Eid calls for the international community to recognize this reality, urging them to see through the manipulation and understand that Iran and Hezbollah are not allies of the Palestinian people, but rather perpetrators of their suffering. He calls for a focus on genuine solutions that prioritize the well-being and rights of Palestinians, rather than perpetuating a cycle of violence and exploitation.
