Wed Sep 25 08:55:48 UTC 2024: ## Former Ohio Teachers’ Pension Fund Director Receives $1.65 Million to Leave Amidst Investigation

**COLUMBUS, OH** – William “Bill” Neville, the former executive director of the Ohio State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), will receive a hefty $1.65 million severance package upon his departure from the position. Neville announced his retirement effective December 1, 2024, following a near-unanimous vote by the STRS board to approve an end-of-employment agreement.

Neville had been on paid leave for almost a year while an independent law firm, appointed by Attorney General Dave Yost, investigated allegations of inappropriate behavior, including violent outbursts and sexually explicit language. While the law firm found many of these claims unsubstantiated, it did confirm that Neville had a history of raising his voice.

The severance package, detailed in the mutual agreement, includes a $890,000 lump sum payment, two years of service credit valued at $760,000 through the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), and a release of liability from STRS for Neville.

The agreement states that the OPERS service credit payment is crucial for the contract to be valid. Neville can claim this credit from OPERS directly.

In a joint statement, the STRS board and Neville expressed gratitude for his 20 years of service to Ohio teachers and acknowledged his leadership.

While the investigation into Neville’s conduct revealed some inappropriate behaviors, the details surrounding the exact nature of the allegations and the extent of the investigation remain unclear. This information is expected to be released publicly in the coming weeks.
