Wed Sep 25 02:51:03 UTC 2024: ## Sri Lanka Swears in New Prime Minister and Cabinet: Harini Amarasuriya Becomes Third Female PM
**COLOMBO, Sept. 24 (Xinhua)** – Harini Amarasuriya, a member of parliament from the National People’s Power (NPP), was sworn in as Sri Lanka’s new prime minister on Tuesday. This comes a day after Anura Kumara Dissanayake was inaugurated as the country’s ninth executive president.
Amarasuriya, who took her oath before Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, is the third woman to hold the position of Prime Minister in Sri Lankan history. She also assumed the portfolios of Justice, Education, Labor, Industries, Science and Technology, Health, and Investments.
Local media reports indicate that the entire cabinet, limited to four members including the president, will be sworn in by Tuesday evening. This follows the resignation of Dinesh Gunawardena as Prime Minister on Monday, shortly after Dissanayake’s victory in the presidential election.
