**WASHINGTON** – A new study by the Media Research Center (MRC) alleges that Google’s search engine is favoring Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump in its results, presenting a biased landscape for users searching for information about the 2024 presidential race.

The MRC conducted a search on September 6 for “Donald Trump presidential race 2024” and “Kamala Harris presidential race 2024.” The results showed that Harris’s campaign website appeared third in the organic results, while Trump’s website ranked sixth.

The study also found that Google displayed a significant amount of left-leaning media articles above both candidates’ websites, with the majority favoring Harris. For example, searches for “Kamala Harris presidential race 2024” primarily featured articles from left-leaning publications like The New York Times and Politico, which often predict a Harris victory in 2024. Conversely, searches for “Donald Trump presidential race 2024” were heavily dominated by articles from the same outlets, but with a focus on critical coverage of Trump.

MRC researchers argue that this bias creates an uneven playing field for the two candidates, as users are exposed to more positive coverage of Harris while being presented with a more negative portrayal of Trump before even reaching their respective campaign websites. The study notes that a growing number of Americans rely on search engines for news, making Google’s potential influence on public opinion even more concerning.

A Google spokesperson dismissed the study, stating that both campaign websites consistently appear at the top of search results for relevant queries. However, the MRC maintains that the study used a “clean” computer with no prior search history or tracking cookies to ensure unbiased results.

The study adds to a growing body of criticism against Google for alleged political bias in its search results. The MRC has previously conducted similar studies that found Google favored left-leaning media outlets and manipulated headlines in paid advertisements to inject pro-Kamala Harris spin.
