Wed Sep 25 07:11:41 UTC 2024: ## Gold Coast Electrician Reveals $178,000 Salary, Urges Young Aussies to “Give Trades a Go”

A Gold Coast instrumentation electrician has shared his impressive $178,000 salary and is urging young Australians to consider a career in the trades. The electrician, who works in the oil and gas industry, highlighted the high demand for skilled workers in the field.

“They’re always screaming out for instrumentation electricians,” he told job app Getahead.

Instrumentation electricians are highly skilled professionals who specialize in installing, maintaining, and repairing instrumentation and control systems, ensuring uninterrupted production in various industries.

The electrician explained his career journey, stating he began as a standard electrician and then gained his instrumentation license. Aspiring professionals need to complete a Certificate III or IV in Instrumentation and Control, along with a white card and other necessary licenses.

The demand for skilled tradespeople is high, with over 600 job opportunities currently available in Australia for instrumentation electricians alone.

“There’s definitely money to be made in trades, and you don’t necessarily have to go to university,” said the electrician.

A Getahead spokesperson echoed this sentiment, highlighting the solid job security and earning potential in the trades. They added that starting a career in a trade allows for faster entry into the workforce and earning potential compared to a university degree.

While the electrician’s base salary is $178,000, many commenters on social media suggested his actual earnings could be significantly higher when considering overtime and night shift work, potentially reaching $300,000 annually.

The story serves as a powerful reminder of the lucrative opportunities available in the trades, particularly in high-demand industries.
