The New York Rangers secured a thrilling 6-4 victory over the Islanders in their second preseason game Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, but the win came at a cost. The team lost two key players to injury, further adding to their already growing injury list.
Artemi Panarin and Ryan Lindgren left the game with lower-body and upper-body injuries respectively, and their status remains uncertain.
The injuries began in the first period when Filip Chytil was awkwardly hit by Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield, leaving him unable to put weight on his left leg. Lindgren, defending Chytil, then went after Mayfield, sustaining an upper-body injury during the ensuing altercation. However, in a show of resilience, Chytil returned to the game before the end of the period and even scored a power-play goal.
Panarin’s injury occurred in the third period, leaving him unable to return.
The Rangers also entered the game with a number of other players nursing injuries. Matthew Robertson (lower-body injury), Ryder Korczak (upper-body injury), and Talyn Boyko (upper-body injury) were all considered day-to-day and did not participate in Tuesday’s game.
Despite the injuries, the Rangers were able to secure a comeback victory. Zac Jones led the scoring with two goals, including a late third-period goal that put the Rangers ahead for good. Chris Kreider also scored twice, while Adam Edstrom notched the game-winning goal.
The Rangers will be looking to bounce back from the injury woes as they continue their preseason schedule, while fans will be anxiously awaiting updates on the status of the injured players.
