Wed Sep 25 08:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Community Platform Engineering Team Wraps Up Q4 2021 with New Initiatives

The Community Platform Engineering (CPE) Team, dedicated to community projects within Red Hat, has completed a busy fourth quarter of 2021. The team collaborates with CentOS and Fedora project leaders to identify and prioritize projects, then splits into sub-teams to work on these initiatives alongside ongoing tasks.

**Key Highlights:**

* **Discourse2Fedmsg Application:** A mini-initiative successfully deployed a new application that converts webhooks from Discourse (an online forum platform) into Fedora Messages, allowing for more efficient communication.
* **Webhooks Application:** The CPE Team is proposing a new web application that would extend the functionalities of the discourse2fedmsg application, enabling it to handle webhooks from other platforms like GitLab.
* **Kernel Test App Modernization:** The team is investigating moving the kernel test app, currently hosted on a virtual machine, to OpenShift. This move will allow for better integration with Fedora Messaging and address any potential issues or feature requests from kernel maintainers.
* **Dist Git Replacement:** The CPE Team is exploring potential replacements for Dist Git, Fedora’s current code management tool. Forgejo and GitLab are being evaluated for their suitability based on user needs and functionality.

**Ongoing Work:**

* **PDC (Product Definition Center):** The CPE Team is reviewing the content stored on the PDC platform, which is no longer maintained, to identify essential data and find a suitable replacement solution.

The CPE Team is committed to providing the best possible infrastructure and tools for the Fedora and CentOS communities. Stay tuned for more updates on their progress in Q3 2024.
