Wed Sep 25 04:50:23 UTC 2024: ## Stokes Open to White-Ball Return Under McCullum, But No Talks Yet
England Test captain Ben Stokes has expressed his willingness to return to the white-ball setup under new head coach Brendon McCullum, but confirmed that there have been no conversations about it.
Stokes, who has been a key figure in England’s recent Test success under McCullum, has played sparingly in limited-overs cricket in recent years. He retired from ODIs in 2022 before returning for the World Cup and last played a T20I in the World Cup final in November 2022.
The all-rounder, currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, told Sky Sports: “I’ve played a lot of white-ball cricket for England and I’m very happy and content with what I’ve achieved in that form of the game… If I get the call to come and play, then obviously it’s definitely going to be a yes.”
However, he clarified that there had been no discussions with McCullum about a potential return. “Me and Baz (McCullum) have not spoken about anything like that whatsoever,” he said.
McCullum’s appointment as head coach across all formats came after Matthew Mott’s departure as limited-overs coach in July. He will take charge of the white-ball sides when England tour India in January.
Stokes is currently recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during The Hundred last month and is scheduled for a scan on Wednesday. He expressed optimism about his rehabilitation process and highlighted the need for a complete recovery to avoid further injuries.
