Wed Sep 25 07:45:06 UTC 2024: ## US Approves $740 Million Sale of Stinger Missiles to Egypt

**WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2024** – The U.S. State Department has announced its approval of a potential Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Egypt, authorizing the sale of Stinger missiles and related support for an estimated cost of $740 million.

The sale, which will be facilitated by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, includes 720 Stinger missiles for use on existing Avenger systems, along with 20 Product Verification Flight Test munitions. The package also encompasses spare and repair parts, testing equipment, and U.S. government and contractor support services.

The State Department emphasized that this sale aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives, aiming to bolster the security of a key regional partner and contribute to political stability and economic growth in the Middle East.

The sale is expected to enhance Egypt’s ability to defend against regional threats and improve interoperability with U.S. forces and other partners. The State Department also noted that the sale will not impact the overall military balance in the region.

The primary contractor for the sale is RTX Corporation, based in Tucson, Arizona. No offset agreements have been proposed in connection with the deal.

The State Department anticipates no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of the sale.

The final dollar value of the sale may be lower than the initial estimate, depending on the final requirements, budget authorization, and the terms of any future signed agreements.

Any inquiries regarding the proposed Foreign Military Sale can be directed to the State Department’s Bureau of Political Military-Affairs, Office of Congressional and Public Affairs at pm-cpa@state.gov.
