Wed Sep 25 03:30:18 UTC 2024: ## Accused in Paediatrician’s Murder Ordered to Stand Trial

**Adelaide, South Australia** – Kerem Aydin and Jacinta Davila will face trial in the Supreme Court for the alleged murder of prominent paediatrician Dr Michael Yung. The pair pleaded not guilty to charges related to the death of Dr Yung, who was found in his Gilberton home with severe head and spinal injuries on December 11, 2023.

Aydin, 23, is charged with murder and aggravated serious criminal trespass, while Davila, 28, faces a charge of assisting an offender. Court documents allege Aydin’s trespass charge relates to an intent to steal property valued at over $30,000, using or threatening a weapon during the theft.

The pair were arrested at a shopping centre in Adelaide’s western suburbs the day after the alleged murder. They were allegedly found to have stolen first-aid supplies to treat Aydin’s injuries sustained during the home invasion. Evidence presented in court includes blood-stained clothing and shoes found at their home, along with glass fragments on shoes and in the washing machine. While DNA evidence linked both accused to the scene, Davila’s lawyer has stated they will contest the validity of the samples.

Dr Yung, a respected paediatrician, served as head of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He was also known for establishing a similar unit in Kenya and working in remote Indigenous communities. He was remembered by colleagues and friends as a skilled and compassionate doctor, a wise and respected mentor, and a loving father, husband, brother, and son.

A bench has been dedicated to Dr Yung along a bike path he used to ride to the hospital, where he cycled regularly.

The next court appearance for Aydin and Davila is scheduled for December in the Supreme Court.
