**NEW ORLEANS** – A fatal crash on Interstate 610 West near the St. Bernard Avenue exit on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) contractor.
The victim, identified as 23-year-old Eric Anthony Jr. of New Orleans, was assisting a driver of a disabled vehicle when he was struck by a 2020 Nissan Rogue. The driver, 26-year-old Oscar G. Perez-Moran of Arabi, traveled off the roadway onto the right shoulder, striking Anthony, the DOTD emergency vehicle, and the disabled car.
Anthony was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the disabled vehicle was unharmed.
Perez-Moran, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. He was subsequently arrested and will be booked into Orleans Parish Jail upon release for negligent homicide and other traffic-related charges.
The right lane on I-610 West at Canal Boulevard remained blocked, causing congestion approaching Elysian Fields Avenue. All other lanes are open. Motorists are advised to avoid the area until the scene is cleared.
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the incident.
