During yesterday’s State of Play, BioWare showcased new gameplay footage for **Dragon Age: The Veilguard**, highlighting the Mage class and a thrilling encounter with a Blighted Ice Dragon.
Producer Hilary Hidey offered an in-depth look at the Mage’s capabilities, demonstrating their versatility in both ranged and melee combat. Players can switch between a staff for long-range attacks and an elemental orb with a dagger for close-quarters encounters. The showcased build focused on fire magic, using Urthemiel’s Ash orb to inflict burning damage and enhance its effects. The Thorn of Misfortune dagger complemented the build, providing physical damage and boosting the potency of Arcane Bombs.
The character’s skill tree was also showcased, emphasizing the interplay between magical abilities and melee combat. The Elemental Catalyst grants bonus damage, while Inner Focus generates mana upon successful attacks, especially against afflicted foes. The Spellblade specialization further enhances the blend of magic and melee, allowing for even more powerful combinations.
The boss fight against the Ice Dragon highlighted the importance of synergy with companions. By priming the Sundered status with Lucanis, the Mage triggered a devastating combo, instantly refreshed by the Regroup rune, enabling the Mage to repeat the attack and ultimately finish the dragon with the Thunderous End ultimate ability.
**Dragon Age: The Veilguard** is set to release on October 31st. Stay tuned for further coverage, including hands-on previews and exclusive Q&A sessions.
