Thu Sep 26 17:54:17 UTC 2024: ## Drug Companies Denounce Counterfeit Medications in CDSCO Report
**New Delhi:** Several leading pharmaceutical companies, including Sun Pharma, Torrent Pharma, Alkem Laboratories, and Glenmark, have vehemently denied manufacturing any of the medications flagged as “not of standard quality” in the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) report for August. The companies have asserted that the listed samples are counterfeit and not genuine.
The CDSCO report highlighted over 50 drugs, including paracetamol, Pan D, calcium and vitamin D3 supplements, anti-diabetes pills, and antibiotics like Amoxicillin And Potassium Clavulanate tablets, as failing to meet quality standards.
Sun Pharma, Torrent Pharma, and Alkem Laboratories have all confirmed that the specific batches mentioned in the report were not manufactured by them. These companies have implemented various anti-counterfeit measures such as QR codes and 3D security strips to ensure product authenticity.
Torrent Pharmaceuticals stated that their analysis of the Shelcal 500 sample seized by CDSCO concluded it was non-genuine and spurious. Glenmark also emphasized that the product mentioned in the report was counterfeit and had not been distributed by them.
All companies have reiterated their commitment to patient safety and product quality, urging pharmacy outlets to source medications exclusively from authorized stockists to combat the menace of counterfeit products.
The CDSCO report revealed that some batches failed dissolution tests, assay and water tests, while others were identified as spurious or having issues with uniformity of volume. This highlights the growing concern of counterfeit medications and the need for stringent measures to protect consumers from potentially harmful products.
