Wed Sep 25 07:43:53 UTC 2024: ## China Condemns Israeli Strikes on Lebanon, Calls for Ceasefire

**BEIRUT, LEBANON –** China has strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, calling them a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and security, and urging a ceasefire to prevent further escalation of the conflict. The airstrikes, which have killed over 558 people as of Tuesday, have prompted thousands of Lebanese families to flee their homes.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib in New York, expressed China’s deep concern over the situation and called for a “permanent ceasefire and comprehensive withdrawal of troops.” Wang emphasized China’s long-standing friendship with Lebanon and reiterated its opposition to any actions that violate international norms. He also urged the Lebanese government to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in the country.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, echoed these sentiments, calling the attacks “unacceptable” and condemning any move that harms innocent civilians.

Experts have warned that the situation could quickly deteriorate into a full-scale military conflict. Israeli forces have indicated that they are prepared for a ground invasion of Lebanon if necessary, while Hezbollah has responded with rocket attacks on Israeli territory. There are fears that the conflict could draw in other militant groups in the region, further escalating the violence.

The Chinese Embassy in Lebanon has advised Chinese citizens residing in affected areas to return to China or relocate to safe areas as soon as possible.

China’s strong stance against the Israeli strikes underscores its commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. The country has called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and has urged all parties involved to engage in dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further bloodshed.
