Wed Sep 25 03:52:00 UTC 2024: ## Cameron Highlands Hiking Trails Reopen, One Remains Closed Due to Safety Concerns

**IPOH, Sept 25** – Following the recent storms that caused uprooted trees in the Cameron Highlands, most hiking trails have reopened to the public. However, the trail leading to Gunung Irau remains closed due to the risk of falling trees.

District forestry officer Arifhadi Johari Affandi confirmed that the department has deemed about 30 trails safe for recreational activities. However, he urged hikers to exercise caution and obtain a permit from the department before embarking on any trek.

“With the monsoon season approaching, weather conditions can change quickly,” Arifhadi said. “If it begins raining during your hike, please turn back immediately for your safety.”

The department has been monitoring the situation closely and is advising visitors not to enter the forest reserve without a permit. All recreational activities at the Cameron Highlands permanent forest reserve were temporarily suspended for five days beginning September 20th as a precautionary measure due to the weather forecast.
